JOB SUMMARY

Functions in the support role for the Regional Controller with responsibilities of providing leadership and guidance to property accountants.  Provides technical support to ensure that property financial systems operate effectively delivering timely and accurate data.  Ensures that financial reporting that relates to yearly and monthly financial statements, forecasting, budgeting, tax filing and performance metrics are executed timely and accurately.  Oversees internal controls and internal audits to minimize risk and protect property assets.  Promotes and facilitates training of current and new financial systems with property leaders and accounting staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assists properties in the development of comprehensive annual budgets that are aligned with the company’s and brand’s strategic direction, improves profit growth in operating departments and demonstrates a commitment to meeting the needs of all key stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with Operations Managers, Property and Support Accountants to ensure monthly financial statements are completed timely and accurately.
  • Provides ongoing analytical support, e.g., monitors and issues company metrics reports and forecasts to ensure revenue goals are met and opportunities are identified and addressed.
  • Effectively manages property working capital and cash flow.
  • Uses financial analysis to identify potential reporting errors and to anticipate the impact of current accounting transactions on future statements. Highlights areas of potential financial impact on revenues and profit.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve accounting procedures by challenging existing processes, encouraging innovation, and driving necessary change.  Leverages strong functional leadership and communication skills to lead accounting staff.
  • Advises the Regional Controller on existing and evolving financial issues and protects and strengthens our corporate accounting structure by advocating and supporting sound business and financial decision making.
  • Communicates financial concepts in a clear and persuasive manner that is easy to understand and drives desired behaviors.
  • Leverages technology and effectively uses information systems and tools to generate financial reports and provide managers with analytical support to drive decision-making.
  • Provides analytical support during budget reviews to identify cost saving and productivity opportunities for property managers.
  • Analyzes financial data and reviews forecasts for accuracy.
  • Puts in place appropriate controls to manage business risks.  Ensures a strong accounting and operational control environment to safeguard assets, improve operations and profitability.  Ensures compliance with standard and local operating procedures.
  • Champions the use of technology to create operational efficiency.  Oversees the maintenance of property-based systems and integration with corporate accounting system.
  • Monitors systems to ensure accuracy of data.
  • Oversees internal, external, and regulatory audit processes and ensures compliance with standard operating procedures.
  • Oversees the reconciliation of balance sheets and ensures account balances are supported by appropriate documentation in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Ensures that the property P&Ls are accurate (i.e., costs are properly matched to revenue, costs are recorded in the proper accounts) and statements are delivered to appropriate individuals in a timely manner.
  • Ensures tax rates used for sales/use tax are current and proper amounts are collected and/or accrued.  Oversees the payment of real estate/personal property taxes.  Ensure tax exempt transactions are appropriate and properly documented.
  • Reviews audit issues and ensures appropriate corrections are made.
  • Manages through people and reliable systems and processes and assigns team members clear accountability backed by appropriate authority to accomplish goals.

 

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

·          Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or equivalent experience

·          5 years of previous accounting and finance management experience in a hotel finance environment  

·          Strong analytical, organization, problem-solving, and communication skills

·          Ability to use standard software applications and hotel systems.

·          Knowledge of purchasing, inventory controls, supplies, and equipment

*Hospitality experience is strongly preferred
